Our song “Let a Day Together Be Christmas” made it to the finals of the Great American Song Contest in the special category for holiday songs. We are quite pleased! This song took a long time to finesse both melodically and lyrically.
Strangely enough, George came up with this chord progression on our first trip to Hawaii. We would not revisit it until several years later, during a writing session at Filoli Gardens. There, we came up with the first idea for the chorus. After we got home, we realized it was too sad for the song. So we switched a few chords around to get the right feel.
For the lyrics, we went through several revisions to make them conversational and not too distracting for sync purposes. We tweaked the verses until we were almost sick of the song. I remember getting so frustrated with it at one point.
The song was quickly scooped up for representation after we finished it and the nod from the Great American Song Contest is certainly nice. It is by far our most streamed song on Spotify. After a lot of time analyzing, rewriting and re-harmonizing, we were quite happy with the result. We’re glad we’re not the only ones.
